What We Learnt at Home & Gift Harrogate 2026

Trade shows have a way of telling a small business exactly where it stands. You can believe in your product all you like from behind a workshop bench, but nothing tests that belief quite like a weekend spent face to face with the retail buyers who'll decide whether it earns shelf space. This July, we took that test at Home & Gift Harrogate 2026 — and came away with a clearer picture of where GoGiftid fits in UK retail than we've ever had before.

It's the latest stop on a trade show journey that started with our Small Business Sunday win and a stand at Spring Fair earlier in the year. Home & Gift felt like a natural next step: a show built specifically around the buyers who stock independent shops, garden centres, and lifestyle stores across the UK.

A Different Kind of Show

Home & Gift Harrogate runs each July at the Harrogate Convention Centre, and it's known for a particular kind of audience — a large share of visitors who attend Harrogate and nowhere else, drawn heavily from independent retailers across the North of England, Scotland, and Ireland. That made it a genuinely different room to Spring Fair: smaller, more relaxed, and full of buyers looking for something they can't already find from their usual suppliers.

For a brand built on one-of-a-kind, hand-cut glassware, that's about as good a match of product and audience as it gets.

What Buyers Are Actually Asking For

Sustainability with a visible story. Buyers weren't just asking whether a product was eco-friendly — they wanted to know exactly how, and whether that story was easy to tell their own customers in three sentences or less.

Genuine originality over trend-chasing. Several conversations circled back to the same point: shoppers are tired of seeing the same seasonal products everywhere. Handmade, no-two-alike pieces stood out precisely because they can't be replicated at scale by anyone else.

Products that photograph well. More than one buyer mentioned social-shareability in the same breath as sell-through rate — a reminder that a product's shelf appeal now extends well beyond the shelf itself.

Flexible order sizes. Independent retailers, in particular, wanted the option to trial a small first order rather than commit to a large minimum, especially for a brand new to their shop.

Where Our Products Struck a Chord

Our bottle lamps drew consistent attention on the stand — buyers were drawn in by the finished glow before they'd even asked about the upcycling process, which is exactly the reaction we hope for. Our upcycled planters, including the self-watering design, prompted genuine curiosity from garden centre buyers looking for something beyond standard terracotta pots. And our Bombay Sapphire Collection glassware, fresh off its moment on the SBS stage, gave us an easy story to open conversations with.

Spring Fair and Home & Gift Harrogate: we've exhibited at both, meeting buyers and retailers from across the UK.

Lessons We're Taking Forward

A few things became clear over the course of the show that we're carrying straight into how we work with retailers going forward.

Lead with the story, then the product. Buyers remembered the bottle's journey before they remembered the SKU number — so our retail materials now open with that story first.

Small-batch trial orders build trust. Making it easy for a new stockist to test a small range before scaling up removes a lot of the hesitation around an unfamiliar, handmade product.

Regional buyers value being asked, not just sold to. Some of our best conversations came from simply asking what wasn't working in their current gift range, rather than leading with a pitch.

What This Means for Our Retail Partners

If you're a retailer who met us at Harrogate, or you're discovering GoGiftid for the first time, our wholesale page has everything you need to get started, including flexible order sizes built around exactly the feedback we heard on the stand. For businesses looking at gifting for their own clients or teams, our corporate gifting service runs on the same handcrafted, sustainable principles.
